As a project that shows my love for writing and my love for film, I thought I would start with sharing about an experience that allowed me to use my writer's voice to write about one of my favorite movies: Spirited Away. As my final for film class, this project included two parts: watching the movie and writing about it. But I was required to do much more than simply writing about why I chose this movie, what I liked about it, and what it meant to me. I was required to watch, analyze, and write about this movie from a film student's perspective, which differs from all other perspectives in terms of looking past what one sees on the screen and asks why they see what they see, what is the significance, why is it important, and much more. Watching Spirited Away from this perspective was interesting and engaging because it allowed me to view the film in a way that allowed me to look at it in a way that I had never before, which was very helpful when it came to writing about it. Overall, it was a great experience, one that allowed me to write about one of my favorite movies and share why it is one of my favorite movies.

The Artist's Corner
When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming an artist, but as I learned rather quickly, sadly, I was not. But that didn't stop me from trying. I had the chance to work on my artistic skills when I took a beginner's drawing class at NU. The class was a lot of fun, especially when we shared our work with each other. I learned to draw sketches, worked with charcoal (my favorite), learned new drawing strategies, and found inspiration in almost everything. For my final project, I put my skills to the test when I used light and shadow to create a drawing that I was most proud of. The experience reignited my love for drawing and dream of one day becoming an artist.
the reader's page
With a love for reading, you'll sometimes find me with my face in a good book, especially when I have the time to enjoy the wonderful stories of my many favorite writers. Other times, when I have an itch for something new, you'll find me searching through Amazon for a new book (thank you internet). In one of the literature classes I took at NU, I had the opportunity and joy to embrace my love for literature by reading the stories, poems, and other written works of some of the greatest American writers, including Edgar Allan Poe. One of his works that fascinated my interest, especially for the supernatural, and influenced me to create something special for my final project was The Raven. With haunting words that echoed off the page, I found myself peering into the mind of a writer that found and embraced his voice, something that has inspired me to do the same.
I wouldn't say I am a poet, and I wouldn't say poetry is one of my favorite subjects, but I sometimes find myself drawn to it with curious eyes. For a poetry report, I chose Henry David Thoreau's The Moon Now Rises to Her Absolute Rule, a poem that spoke of the beauty and delicacy of nature. With the skills I learned, I was able to interpret Thoreau's piece and understand it in a way that allowed me to see and hear it in my mind, an important skill to all readers.
